The local motorsports world lost a long time member last week when Jim Latham passed away on May 27 after a long battle with cancer. We all knew Jim for his passionate support of the spirit of Vintage racing, his very well-prepared and driven racing cars, and for his many hours of hard work on behalf of the VRCBC, including his three years as president during some very challenging times. ‘Gentleman Jim’ was always generous with his time and energy, and never seemed to lose his optimistic outlook or great sense of humour, regardless of the circumstances. We will miss him a lot.

Jim had a long and very successful career in education in the Fraser Valley, in which he demonstrated all of the same personal characteristics for which we knew him so well. It is very appropriate therefore that his family has established the Jim Latham Scholarship to honour his legacy. If you wish, you may make a contribution here.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life was held on Saturday, June 11 at Rancho Caterers, in Abbotsford. That was during a race weekend at Jim’s home track in nearby Mission and we are sure that that would put a smile on his face!

The VRCBC offers its deepest condolences to Jim’s family and his many friends.
