The May long weekend saw the 59th(!) annual running of the Knox Mountain Hillclimb in Kelowna. Our 'travelling correspondent', Brent Martin has forwarded some of his photos of VRCBC members, old friends of the Club plus some other interesting 'older' racing cars. You can see all of Brent's event photos on his web site here.

The final results are available on the Knox Mountain Hillclimb site (here) or directly here and here.

The Club held a meeting on Vancouver Island for the first time on Saturday, May 14th. Club members from the Mainland took ferries and met up with other Club members and their guests from the Island at the brand new Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit in the Cowichan Valley.

Update: Autoweek magazine recently published this story about the Circuit.

Our host Brent Evans gave us a tour of the beautiful facility and briefed us on the Circuit's features and their exciting plans for the future. Everybody had an opportunity for a few 'managed' laps around the challenging track, either as a driver or passenger.

After lunch, those with interesting cars had the chance to do some parade laps. The group then travelled to Club member Steve Clark's home in Victoria, where we met more enthusiasts, held our regular May meeting and were able to view Steve's very impressive collection of vintage motorcycles and cars, including the well-known Vintage racing cars he brings to our races at Mission.

A big thank you to both Brent and Steve, and to the many others who helped organize this very enjoyable day. Perhaps we can make a trip to the Island an annual event.

A lot of well-known motorsport personalities of the past and present attended. See how many you can spot in the following photos.

The second CACC-sanctioned, SCCBC-organized race event of the 2016 season - the Spring Sprint Weekend - was held on April 30 and May 1 at the Mission Raceway Park Road Course. It had the usual two full days of on-track action, including Time Attack on the Saturday and Vintage races on the Sunday.

The complete results are available on the SCCBC web site (here). The Vintage Closed Wheel and the Open Wheel / Sports Racer (with Vintage participants) results are also available under the Race Results menu on this web site (here).

Update: Look below for a sample of Brent Martin's photos of the Vintage action (Thanks Brent!) and then check out his website (here) for all of his motorsport galleries.

The next racing at Mission will be on the June 11-12 weekend. Stay tuned.

The first CACC-sanctioned race weekend of the 2016 season at Mission Raceway Park Road Course was held on April 16-17. The SCCBC named this the 'McRae Memorial Weekend' in honour of long time volunteer and 2010 Hall of Fame inductee Jim McRae, who passed away earlier this year. The complete results for the weekend are available on the SCCBC website (here).

The Vintage REVS races were held as usual, on the Sunday. The Vintage and Open Wheel / Sports Racer results are also available in PDF under the 2016 Season menu on this web site (here).

Check out Brent Martin's photos of the action on Sunday below. (Thanks Brent!) The next races are less than two weeks away. Registration for the SCCBC's 'Spring Sprint Weekend' on April 30 - May 1 is already open (here). See you there!

The VRCBC was again part of the Confederation of Autosport Car Clubs - better known as the CACC - display at this year's Vancouver International Autoshow. The show ran from Wednesday, March 23rd to Sunday, March 27th at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

The CACC once again secured a high profile location and had a very impressive display (check out the photos below). Last year was considered to be a great success and this year was even better. Many show visitors stopped to look at our racing cars and to talk about all forms of amateur motorsport, including our favourite, Vintage racing.

Update: Initial indications are that over 100,000 people visited the Autoshow over the five days, and that approximately 1,000 (!) of them submitted an entry form to the draw for a free registration in the SCCBC's very popular Driver Training Program to be held this coming June at the Mission Raceway Road Course.

A big thank you from the VRCBC to the CACC for organizing the display, to all those who provided their cars - and karts - and to all those members of the various clubs who contributed their time to 'work' the show.
