The weather was great for the season’s second race weekend at the Mission Raceway Park Road Course on May 5th-6th. A good time was had by all!

The Vintage results are available here; the complete results for the weekend are available on the SCCBC web site (here). We have a break in the action now until the third event – the June 23rd-24th weekend. That will give everybody a good chance to get some of those new ‘go faster bits’ on their cars!

Thanks to Brent Martin for more great photos of our Vintage action (see below) and check out all of his photos on his web site (here).

See you at the track in June!

The April 21st-22nd weekend was a very busy one for the VRCBC. Some members were ‘working’ our display at the BC Classic & Custom Car Show in Abbotsford, while everybody else was ‘playing’ at the race track!

The 2018 race season at Mission Raceway Park Road Course began under sunny skies with the first Sports Car Club of BC (SCCBC) event, sanctioned by the CACC. As usual, our Vintage REVS series races were held on the Sunday. The Vintage results are available here; the complete results for the weekend are available on the SCCBC web site (here).

And now that spring has finally arrived, it’s time to get that grass cut, as VRCBC Vice President Paul Haym so ably demonstrated with his highly efficient Datsun 510 ‘mower’ in Turn 5!

More of Brent Martin’s photos of the Vintage action are shown below. (Thanks Brent.) The rest of Brent’s photos of the whole weekend of racing are now posted on his website (here).

The VRCBC returned to the BC Classic & Custom Car Show at the Tradex in Abbotsford over the April 20th to 22nd weekend. We had both of VRCBC legend Al Reid’s Team OGRE racing cars on display; his 1967 MGB and his 1996 Pontiac Firebird. Both cars attracted a lot of attention and many show attendees were very interested to learn more about road racing at Mission Raceway in general and our own Vintage racing activities in particular.

Our local motorsport sanctioning body, the CACC secured a  very high profile space at the Vancouver International Auto Show for its member clubs and other BC motorsport groups to display their cars, clubs and events. The show was held at the Vancouver Convention Centre at Canada Place.

The CACC’s objective was to showcase all facets of our sport in BC, including Slalom, Hill Climb, Time Attack, Ice Race, Road Race and (our own favourite of course!) Vintage. This year’s big display included many specially selected (including three Vintage) competition cars, video footage, club schedules and brochures, and other promotional material.

A special focus this year was to show visitors how they can be involved in all of the action and have a lot of fun, without having to actually race a car. They can volunteer and be trained for flagging, communications, timing and scoring, and many other key positions.

Some of Brent Martin’s photos of the VRCBC moving in their cars on Sunday, March 25th. Good fun!

The VRCBC kicked off the 2018 racing season with another of our very popular KartFests. This year were back running the quick, gas-powered Sodi RT8 karts at TBC Indoor Kart Racing in Richmond. We had a full grid of 12 karts and 36 drivers.

The electronic timing and scoring system had some last minute hiccups so, in true Vintage racing tradition, the twelve teams quickly resorted to ‘old school’ manual methods and ‘all was good’.

It was a fun evening for VRCBC members and their many guests. Planning is already underway for the season opening KartFest 2019 scheduled for next March.

Next up is the first ‘real’ race event at Mission Raceway Park Road Course on the April 21-22 weekend. See you there!
