The Third Annual The BMW Store Children’s Charities Grand Prix (CCGP) was  held this past (August 7th – 8th) weekend at Mission Raceway Park.  In just three short years, the CCGP has become one of the leading motorsport events in Western Canada. In addition to providing lots of fun and exciting racing for participants and spectators, it has also raised a lot of money for a very good cause and given some children the thrill of a lifetime. This very popular event raises funds for the Children’s Wish Foundation and the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. The weather could have been a little more cooperative but there was some excellent racing on both days and everyone had a good time. The VRCBC is very supportive of the CCGP. We had our usual Vintage racing on the Sunday.  The results for all of the classes are posted on the SCCBC web site . The Vintage results are also posted under the Race Results menu on this website.

The SCCBC’s September Pit Pass includes event reports from Tony Morris Jr. and Chris Doodson, and some excellent photos.

Here are some of the many great photos taken of all the action at the BC Historic Motor Races.

Alan McColl and Jim Latham represented the VRCBC at the eighth annual Village Classic Car Show in downtown Chilliwack on Sunday, June 27th. Jim’s Volvo 122S, and Alan’s Lotus Cortina and Tiga Formula Ford race cars were part of the Star FM display. They answered many questions from interested visitors and also promoted the big upcoming BC Historic Motor Races on the July 16th – 18th weekend. The crowds dropped off somewhat when the heavens opened around mid-day (see the photos) but it was a very successful day overall.

The VRCBC is a member of the National Association of Automobile Car Clubs of Canada (NAACC). The NAACC has learned that as of June 19, 2010 the Canadian gasoline regulations have been amended to allow for the production, import and sale of leaded gasoline for use in competition vehicles. These amendments are now in effect and will be published in the Canada Gazette shortly. Check NAACC Update for more information on this important issue for vintage racers as well as on other recent NAACC activities.

There was an excellent turnout of 15 entries for the June 13th REVS races at Mission Raceway. Here are some photos as the cars enter the track for their first practice session, led by Dennis Repel in his bright yellow 1974 Camaro. The others in order are: Ivan Lessner (’58 Austin Healey 100-6), Neil Tregear (’65 Cooper S), Keith Wong (’68 Triumph GT6), Roger Flescher (’67 Sunbeam Tiger), Peter Valkenburg (’61 Volvo PV544), Gunter Pichler (’64 XKE), Mark Brown (’69 Lotus Seven S3), Mike Owen (’67 Cooper S), Jim Latham (’68 Volvo 122S). In the second row are: Al Harvey (’71 MGB), Phil Roney (’69 TVR Vixen), Geoff Tupholme (’73 Mini) and Allan McColl (’68 Lotus Cortina). The other entrant was Glen Gibbons with his 1969 Alfa Romeo GTV, who was a little tardy getting to pre-grid. Watch for a full race report soon.
